Fibre Art created with sustainable materials and ancient techniques
About
I am happiest when I am outside. Hands in the dirt and the sun on my face. The sound of rustling leaves in the wind, the scent of damp earth and the magic of witnessing a seed sprout overwhelm my senses. I’m brought to a place of contentment, joy and thankfulness. Through my art I wish to capture and preserve these feelings. Stitching and weaving nature’s gifts into something to view, hold and touch.
I find and respectively harvest the majority of my plant material within the fence lines of our Alberta farm. Being primarily self taught, I enjoy the challenge of learning a new technique. The hours seem to fly by while I am cleaning and preparing fibres to stitch, twist up and weave. Excitement grows in anticipation to get started on a new piece.
Currently I am exploring the themes of time and memory. Everyone and everything has a history. A willow rod was once reaching for the sky. A rusty bent nail helped hold a home together. A fragment of white satin was once part of a young girl’s dreams. They have stories to share. The desire and need to be whole again. To be part of something, just as we do.
With this perspective and my deep gratitude for nature’s gifts, I’m in hopes my art will strengthen our appreciation for the landscapes we inhabit and serve as a comforting embrace of the beauty that resides in our memories.
Commisions
I love to create fibre art that is uniquely you! I will design a woven vessel or wall sculpture around a treasured object ( like the stone in this pine needle basket ) or bring your exclusive vision to life.
If you would like to start a conversation regarding a commission, please reach out via email and describe your project.
